The 1.0.2 update landed with texture alignment fixes, corrected key prompts, and a new option to disable screen flicker when firing—small details that matter when you're tracking a synth through strobe-lit alleys.

Sunset City — the open, crime-ridden zone where the whole game takes place. You move through it freely, not in discrete mission lobbies.

Cryostasis amnesia — you wake up with no past and a deal on the table: recover your memories by putting your combat abilities to work for people with power.

Plague zones — sections of the city are cordoned off. The air itself is a hazard, and the infected aren't patient.

Weapon set — five weapons total, from a katana that rewards closing the distance fast to projectile guns where flicker-free muzzle flash is now a toggle. Each has a distinct handling rhythm.

RPG layer — 39 player upgrades spread across the five episodes. You're not just getting better at aiming; you're building a version of the character that handles differently by the end.

29 enemy types, 4 bosses — the variety forces you to switch tactics. Some rush, some suppress. Bosses are pattern-heavy and punish greed.

Minute to minute, you're clearing floors of a high-rise one moment, then sprinting across rooftop bridges the next, tracking which upgrade to grab before the next big fight. The soundtrack is the only voice audio, so the city's hum and the crunch of your footsteps carry the atmosphere.

Mistakes beginners make in the first two episodes

Rushing the katana upgrade tree without putting points into mobility first. The blade is satisfying, but without the dash cooldown reduction and air-control augments you'll eat shotgun blasts closing the gap. Get at least three movement nodes before committing to melee damage.

Treating plague zones like standard combat arenas. The environmental drain ticks faster than it feels, and the visual distortion that warns you is subtle on lower brightness settings. Carry at least one health injector specifically for crossing contaminated blocks — don't burn them mid-fight and then limp into the haze.

Ignoring the weapon-swap speed upgrade. It sits quietly in the third column of the upgrade grid and doesn't sound exciting, but against the later mixed mobs, where you need to drop a shielded drone then immediately punish a charging infected, the default swap delay will get you killed more often than bad aim will.

Combat tempo meets dense, meaningful alleys

Players who enjoyed the combat tempo of early-2000s shooters but wanted a reason to care about the spaces between fights. The five episodes aren't long by modern open-world standards, but they're dense — every alley feeds back into either an upgrade decision or a story beat, and the game rewards you for stopping to read terminal logs.

Mac users on Apple Silicon get a particularly smooth experience. The ARM build leans hard on the efficiency cores for background audio and physics, leaving the performance cores free for draw calls. On an M4, even the particle-heavy boss arenas hold frame timing steady. If you've been chasing a shooter that doesn't make your laptop sound like a jet engine, this architecture split matters.

Anyone who prefers atmosphere delivered through level design rather than radio chatter. With voice audio limited to music only, the storytelling lives in environmental details — quarantine posters layered over older advertisements, the way a ransacked apartment tells you exactly what happened before you arrived. It's a game for players who read item descriptions by habit.

Swiping to a browser without the engine crashing

The game respects Spaces and Mission Control properly — you can swipe to a browser to check a terminal log you spotted on a forum without the engine throwing a fit. That's rarer than it should be in fullscreen OpenGL titles. Windowed mode at 1440p leaves enough desktop real estate for a text editor on a second display if you're documenting upgrade paths.

For capture and sharing, the absence of screen flicker (with the new toggle off) means QuickTime screen recordings compress cleanly — no keyframe spikes from strobe effects. OBS users on Apple Silicon can pull the Metal texture directly without hitting the encoder hard. If you're the type who archives boss kills or wants to dissect enemy patterns frame by frame, the clean output helps.

Games that scratch a similar itch on the catalog — high-mobility shooters with a strong sense of place — pair naturally. The cyberpunk setting sits comfortably alongside synth-heavy soundtracks you might already have in Music; the game's own audio is music only, so your own playlist blends in rather than clashing with voice lines that don't exist.
